Chanoyu

Chanoyu is a traditional Japanese art form that aims to quiet the mind and unite the hearts of those gathered together through a single cup of powdered green tea..

Chanoyu, also called Sadō (Way of Tea), is rooted in the spirit of Zen, as are Kendō (Way of the sword), Judō(Way of gentle), and Shodō(way of writing), and explores a deeper path of the mind through matcha tea.

Therefore, the ceremonial etiquette for making and drinking matcha tea is strictly regulated.

This is identical to the concept of postures in Yoga and kata in martial arts.

By mastering these gestures, you will be able to detach yourself from everyday life and achieve a high level of concentration, quiet peace of mind, and balance between mind and body.

Japan Village's tearoom is a rare opportunity to practice authentic tea ceremony in New York City.

Please join our instructor, Yoshitsugu Nagano, a Japanese tea master, in practicing the tea ceremony to achieve a rich life with a balanced mind and body!
